Waterjet Cutting Glass – Red Art Glass

Cutting glass can be challenging because it is prone to cracking or breaking unexpectedly. As shown in our art glass images and upcoming video, waterjet cutting produces a smooth, sandblasted edge without chips or cracks.

DS&T has extensive experience cutting a wide variety of glass materials, including high-lead nuclear glass, 9-inch-thick telescope lens glass, bullet-resistant glass, and high-temperature glass used in roasting ovens.

Please note:
All waterjet cutting must be completed before the glass is tempered. Tempered glass will shatter if cut with a waterjet.

The client sent us a cutout of the heart. We scanned the heart shape and programmed the software for our waterjet machine to accurately cut the shape.

The original glass was 1.5 inches thick. The completed watercut edge is visible.

This is a top view of the completed cut showing the sandblasted edge. The abrasive in the water is similar to 80 grit sandpaper.

As a result, the project produced two waterjet cut art-glass hearts for a monument manufacturing company, and are now ready for shipment to Japan.
